At Home With The Durrells

I wanted to share a few photos from our recent week in Corfu - not too many so as to bore you rigid but just a few of the best which capture the spirit of this wonderful island. We stayed in a small village called San Stefanos on the north-west side of the island. Most days the temperature was in the mid to high 30s - it was hot!

The sea was actually this glorious colour !

I loved seeing all the beautiful flowers - the colour of these hibiscus flowers is amazing !

There were olive groves everywhere

Lemon trees

Turtles were swimming in the local river

Cocktails - they're an obligatory part of a summer holiday !

The best strawberry daquiri I've ever had !

My favourite meal of the holiday - Greek salad and stuffed vine leaves (Lovely Hubby had the omelette and chips !)

Buttercups & May Blossom

Despite the hayfever this is my favourite time of year for the fields where we walk the dogs. The season transforms them from muddy fields where cows plod to summer meadows where the buttercups are calf-high, the May blossom (hawthorn blossom) covers the trees and the cow parsley lines the side of the beck.

Every year I go tissues in hand, sneezing and coughing, whilst the dogs roam and romp, racing through the buttercups getting overheated in the June sun, their tongues lolling and their coats picking up a mass of pollen and plant spores.

So it was this morning when we walked.

I hope you too have been able to enjoy the glorious sunshine we've had this weekend.
